Introduction

In the early 70's I had a son and wanted to make him a wooden train. The first thing to decide was how to 'link' the train car bases together, regardless of what would eventually be fixed on top. Not wanting to compromise by using metal hooks and eyes, magnets, velcro or leather, I made a common 'lap joint', which is still used today.

Before long he was clearly frustrated. As the train was pulled from a smooth floor to carpet, or over a threshold, it would disconnect. I needed to come up with something else. And I did. Out of the dark, not knowing, came an idea that now seems both simple and obvious. It is a 'universal' coupling with removable hitch pin.

Once the design was perfected for production, I proceeded to make and sell them at arts and crafts fairs throughout the midwest. I sold hundreds during that period and am sure they are considered heirlooms today.

That was the birth of the all terrain train, or TerRAIN as I call it. Now, after years of employment, moves and raising a family, I am re-introducing that original concept with stylish new appearance and enhanced functionality. It is unique, satisfying, virtually indestructible and not to be found anywhere else. It will truly become an heirloom in your family.
